What’s your relationship with time?
What’s your relationship with time?
We all have an internal dialogue about time, whether we realize it or not. And the way we think about time directly shapes our experience of it.
For years, my personal mantra was: “There’s just not enough time in the day!” And every time I said it, I reinforced the belief that time was scarce. I rushed through tasks, cut out self-care, and constantly felt like I was falling behind. I hated the world of time scarcity that I was unconsciously creating.
But here’s the truth: Your thoughts create your reality
I would watch cooking contest shows (Chopped, Nailed It, etc) where contestants were always fighting against the clock. My coach pointed out that these shows might be affecting how I related to time. I started to notice that the energy from these shows “If only I had more time” was very familiar and comfortable to me. So I stopped watching them. It helped me shift my energy enough that I was able to utilize the daily mantra/affirmation “there’s always enough time for my priorities.”
Suddenly I started to find that I was feeling a lot more productive. The amount of things I had to do didn’t change, I changed. My perception of time shifted. My internal monologue shifted. My emotions around time shifted from scarcity to abundance. And suddenly I had more time and joy in my days. Everything felt lighter and I was actually having fun doing things!
Here’s the thing – this is true for everything, not just for time.
I had a client who struggled with health issues for years. Even years after she healed, she caught herself still repeating the mantra “My body is broken.” That belief lingered, influencing how she felt, moved, and treated herself—until she actively worked to shift it. Now she’s feeling healthier and more empowered!
Here’s some tools to notice and shift the unconscious mantras you have in your head.
Noticing & Shifting Your Mantras
1️. Listen to Your Self-Talk – Pay attention to the phrases you repeat, especially when stressed. Do they empower you or hold you back?
2. Reframe the Narrative – Instead of saying, “I never have enough time,” try “I have all the time I need for what matters most.”
Once I changed my time scarcity mindset, I felt lighter, more productive, and ironically I actually had more time. The tasks didn’t change. I did.
Think about it what’s a mantra you’ve been repeating that no longer serves you?

You Are Whatever You Think!
You are whatever you think!
There is some really fascinating research showing that you are whatever you think you are, which is why it’s so important to visualize yourself as successful! Your words and thoughts can limit or empower your entire life! A growing amount of psychology research has shown that you are whatever you think you are. In other words, your perception of yourself can actually change your physiological state!
A really cool study from 1981 called “Counterclockwise Study” once demonstrated that you are what you think and you can actually reverse your aging with your mindset!!!
The Study
Scientists asked a group of men in their 70s to do one simple thing for 5 days – pretend it was 1959. Not talk about that time but actually live as though it was that time and pretend as if they were 22 years younger. They were all put in a house that was secluded in the woods during this time. All of the decorations, furniture, and conditions of the house were made to look like it was 1959. The mirrors and any indication of the current time frame was removed from the house although the house did have pictures of them from when they were 22 years younger. These men read magazines, listened to radio shows and even watched black and white TV shows – all from 1959. They even ate food from 1959 and spent all of their time discussing sports and current events from that time. There were 2 control groups: one of men where nothing was changed and there was another group of men that were in the same 1959 environment but were asked to reminisce as though it was 1959 (instead of pretending that it was 1959).
The goal of this study was to get men to mentally trigger their bodies to reverse age and exhibit signs that they were younger. The results were ASTOUNDING and have changed what we understand around the psychology of aging!
The Results:
Prior to the study, these men had extensive testing and physiological measurements taken. Comparing the end results to the beginning is where the magic of this study really comes out! These men had statistically significant improvements in physical strength, gait, eyesight, hearing, memory and dexterity. In the group of men that pretended it was 1959, 63% of them had cognitive improvements. On average, they grew about 1 inch of height in just 5 days! Men that had started with a cane and unable to carry things left this house 5 days later without the cane and carrying their own suitcases! People outside of the study were asked to look at before and after photos of these men and the AFTER photo was rated to look 2 years younger on average!
Conclusion:
Just by pretending and thinking that they were 22 years younger, these men actually reversed their age in just 5 days!!! This is profound because it means that our brain has such strong control over our body that it can actually change our physiological measurements! Since you are what you think, this means that age is only a number and by simply believing that you’re younger than you are, you can reverse age your body! Your positive mindset actually defines your physical and mental abilities! Your expectations of yourself and your abilities are extremely powerful! So choose wisely how you want to view yourself!!!
Prosper Where You Are Planted!
September is Prosper Where You Are Planted Month. The saying “prosper where you are planted” means to accept your present situation and to take advantage of all the opportunities around you. That is easier said than done! We often find ourselves resisting the current situation and thinking to ourselves “the future will be better when…” This is a slippery slope that actually prevents us from having what we want. Oftentimes when people are unhappy in life they’re focusing on the negative aspects of their situation. Let’s use this month to rewrite our narratives. Let’s break free from the constraints of waiting for the “perfect” moment and start seeing the potential within each moment. It’s a shift in perspective that empowers us to cultivate a garden of opportunity right where we stand, embracing the gifts that our present situation offers. With practice, we have the power to transform adversity into growth and flourish in even the most unexpected circumstances. Life’s twists and turns might not always lead us down the path we envisioned, but they can lead us towards remarkable personal growth and resilience.
Here are some tips on how you can learn how to thrive and prosper where you are planted!
How to Thrive:
Step 1: Shift your mindset to an attitude of gratitude. Be grateful for everything in your life, even the negative things. When you’re in a tough situation, be grateful for the lessons it’s teaching you and the opportunity to grow. I challenge you to take any negative thing in your life and find 3 positives that have come out of it!
Step 2: Be present! Usually when we’re feeling upset it’s because we’re regretting the past or worrying about the future. Take some deep breaths and realize how amazing it is that you’re alive right now. When you focus on the present moment, most of your negative emotions will just fall away. The easiest way to focus on the present is to focus on your breath as it goes in and out of your nose.
Step 3: Look for opportunities around you. This is often tricky when you’re feeling negative emotions, so get creative! Make a list of 10 opportunities that are available to you right now in the situation you’re working through. It might feel like a stretch to get to 10, but I know you can if you brainstorm! This may involve doing new things, taking risks and getting out of your comfort zone. It may also involve making connections, asking for help and working diligently.
Step 4: Make the most of each day. Don’t let yourself get stuck in procrastination, fear, anxiety or any other negative emotion! Be a positive force in the world by bringing positivity into your life and the lives of others! Brainstorm 5 ways that you take action in the day and get moving on them! They can be little things, like smiling at people on the street as you walk by.
When you focus on these 4 steps, you will bloom in your life and grow into the person you want to become!
I just want to note that this is easier said than done because sometimes it’s hard not to be negative! Our brains are actually conditioned to focus on the negative evolutionarily, because having an eye on the things that are “wrong” in the situation – like a sabertooth tiger on the other side of the field – actually kept you alive. Unfortunately this means that we will naturally tend to focus on and talk about what we don’t like instead of what we do like. Training your brain to focus on the positive can be tricky without guidance. It’s important to show yourself a lot of grace while you’re practicing on improving your mindset.
