How are you setting 2022 up for success?

How are you setting your new year up for success? January is the perfect time for reflecting on 2021 and planning what you want in 2022. Intentionally planning what we want to achieve in the new year makes us much more likely to reach our goals!

Here are some ideas of how you can set yourself up for success and be intentional on what you want to create this year!

  • Vision boards: Vision boards are a fun way to see your goals on paper and put your big dreams out into the universe. Creating a visual representation of your intentions and goals that you can look at everyday is a great way to program your subconscious mind and shift your mindset to success.
  • Writing out your goals – Journal on your goals and write down everything you want to achieve this year (and beyond!). Then choose the most important things on the list and create an action plan of how to get there. This will help you stay focused on what you want and give you the steps to get there!
  • Creating intentions (themes you want to focus your year around): Set themes to focus on this year. Will you be bringing more gratitude into your year? Maybe you want to focus on being calm and centered. Take some time to think about how you want to show up and how you want to feel this year and set that intention!
  • Start a new healthy habit: Create a new healthy habit for yourself. Do you have a morning routine that energizes you and mentally prepares you for the day? What about an evening routine that helps you wind down and get ready for bed. Focus on creating a new habit that will improve your life and your health.
  • Create a schedule that incorporates doing more things that you love: In this new year, intentionally plan a schedule that you love, incorporate more time with your family, work in gym time, and blocks to relax. Intentionally creating a schedule that you love will make you happier day to day and you’ll always have something to look forward to!
  • Make yourself a priority with consistent self care: Many of us tend to push our self care to the bottom of our to-do list. Self-care is incredibly important for our mental health and overall wellbeing! By filling ourselves up mentally, physically, and emotionally as our top priority, we are more productive, happier, and have better lives overall!

How to set your year up for success!

It’s almost New Year’s Eve, so now is the perfect time to start thinking about 2022! What are some things you want to do differently this year? What are some improvements you want to make in your life this year? Here are some tips on how to set your year up for success!

  1. Reflect on the last year: Think about what worked and what didn’t work this past year. Was your self care lacking? Or maybe you didn’t get enough fruits and veggies in your diet. Try some of these journaling prompts to see what comes up for you and what you’d like to change in the new year: What went well for me last year? What accomplishments did I have? How did I improve my life? What do I wish I had taken more time for?
  2. Choose one thing at a time to focus on: Be intentional with your list of to-do’s. When making goals ask why you want to accomplish one specific thing and work towards that.
  3. Start a gratitude journal: Journaling is an amazing practice and habit to get into. One amazing way to practice journaling is to create a gratitude journal. Write down one thing daily that you were thankful for even if it’s as simple as not being stuck in traffic that day. In practicing gratitude you’ll start to notice you’ll look at the world a little differently.
  4. Try something new: Trying new things will open your eyes to new opportunities. Try out a new sport like pickleball or a new type of exercise like Zumba. You might even find a new hobby that you love!
  5. Write a personal mission statement or mantra: Do you have a mantra for the type of person you want to show up as? Create one for the new year and remind yourself of it daily.
  6. Slow down to gain momentum: Take some time everyday to think, plan, and slow down. You’ll become more aware of your dreams, and goals and you’ll gain clarity to move forward.
  7. Make new connections: Attend a networking event or reconnect with an old friend. Meeting with others will open new doors, and provide new perspectives.

Holiday Mindfulness Tips

The holidays are full of joy but they can also be stressful. Here are some techniques to help make your holiday more joyful!

1) Take a walk. Pay close attention to the sounds, sights and smells. Really appreciate the scenery around you. Walking is an excellent way to decrease stress and boost your mood!

2) Take 3-5 minutes to meditate. Meditation is a great way to center yourself. It’s easy – simply find a quiet place to sit for a few minutes. Focus on your breathing, deep calming breaths that fill your lungs. If your mind wanders (which is natural), gently come back to focusing on your breath. The goal is to be present in the moment.

3) Be kind to yourself. Take a bath or a nap. Call a friend. Go to the movies or play a game. Anything to reminds you of the joy this holiday season is filled with!

Heath-full Holiday Tips

The holidays are filled with great things- gratitude, family, food, and time relaxing and connecting with those you love. But for many people, the holidays are also filled with stress and anxiety, depression, overeating and feeling overly gluttonous.
Here are some tips to help you navigate the holidays:

– Eat a large breakfast with lots of protein and fat! Be sure to completely avoid carbs and sugar as these will put you on a blood sugar rollercoaster. Having a good base to start the day off will kickstart your metabolism and keep you from being starving by the time food is served. Eat a light lunch too if your family does Thanksgiving dinner.

– Have a healthy snack on hand! Like an apple, a cheese stick and a handful of nuts or pumpkin seeds. Having a healthy snack will keep you from overeating during your Thanksgiving meal, which causes you to feel bloated and uncomfortable after the meal. A healthy snack will fuel your body but won’t fill you up so that you can fully indulge in “the main meal” and will also keep you from over indulging in unhealthy snacks while you wait.

– Start with one scoop/serving of everything, don’t overfill your plate! Our eyes are always bigger than our stomachs. And DON’T EVER FEEL PRESSURED TO FINISH YOUR PLATE, all of these foods make great leftovers! I almost never finish my first plate, so I put it in the fridge and save it for a great snack later in the day.

– Take more turkey/ham/meat than you normally do! Protein is filled with amino acids your body needs, so load up on this! The average adults doesn’t get enough protein and this causes you to over indulge in empty carbs when your body really needs more protein. Aim to eat approx. 4-8oz of meat, which is a little bit bigger than you fist.

– Don’t cut yourself short on fat! Don’t hesitate to add as much butter as you want to your potatoes and feel free to add some gravy. The fats in food help us feel full faster, so it’s better to taking 1 serving of mashed potatoes with 2 pats of butter than 2 scoops of mashed potatoes with 1 pat of butter.

– Be sure to eat your veggies first! Your body needs the vitamins and minerals in veggies. This will help ensure that your holiday meal gives you nourishment and not just empty calories.

– Eat slowly and talk to people during the meal! Be mindful of every bite you put in your mouth and focus on the delicious flavors and textures of the food. Focusing on gratitude for the meal and the company actually improves your body’s ability to metabolize the food and utilize all the nutrients effectively!

– Take a walk! Walking after eating is a great way to fight the sluggish feelings you get after eating. It also gets your blood pumping and getting moving allows your body to utilize the glucose you just consumed and prevents your body from storing everything as fat.

– If you suffer from anxiety or depression during the holidays, don’t suffer alone! Reach out to friends and family. Contact me for support! Know that you’re not alone, many people feel the way you do. And there are options to help you feel better quickly besides pharmaceuticals and therapy. Probiotics have been shown to improve feelings of anxiety and depression because these symptoms can be caused by bacterial signaling in the gut. Kitty has done tons of research on this and partnered with an amazing probiotics company that has clinical trials showing that symptoms of anxiety decreased by 45% and depression decreased by 55%. Reach out to her for more information!

Sending warm wishes for a beautiful holiday season to you and yours!!!!!!!!!!!!
